SaTan Hill and Lottie

Something sinister or merely “Its” Tan Hill? Was this the secret rendezvous for Satan’s Snails who made a first appearance with the Derbyshire Firkin Flyers at Christmas or simply another bit of 2CV Franglais? Infamous Lottie (LTR 989Y) had to find out and left Derbyshire at 8am on a wet and windy Sunday. The idea was to rush up the M1 to Leeds find the start and have a gentle day out. We stopped twice - once to remove a flapping offside front mud flap that was flailing the wing and once to fill up prior to the start. The rain stopped as we went north and we were making great time, expecting to arrive half an hour before the start. Leeds City Centre was quiet and the A660 was signposted but only once! We made it to the start with 5 minutes to spare after a chase round Leeds and were allocated number 64 and a place in the third “Yellow” convoy.

Citroen 2CV and Dyane Raid Tan Hill

There was hardly time to turn round in the car park before we were mustered and off at a steady 40 mph into the scenic bits of the UK north of Leeds. The weather held out well and the trip was quite exciting with lots of standing water on the roads perfectly hiding the potholes designed to test Lottie's suspension. Clutch and transmission got a bashing on the steep hills and the door seals and roof were tested by high winds and rain outside the Inn and on the way home. Well over 80 cars made the Raid and everyone seemed well pleased by Les Hiboux joi de vivre and sang froid. Merci.

If only we had encountered some snow – such a disappointment not to! Lottie got her booty stickered and her botty pressure washed, met 2 identical (ish) sisters and lots of cousins. 300 miles and home in time for Emmerdale. That was a good way to round off le pilots birthday weekend. Will the mud flap ever escape from the boot? Can we go faster with it's sibling removed? Watch this space.....
