Lottie comes up trumps Pete the landlord at the Royal Oak pub, Hurdlow (5 miles south of Buxton just off the A515) suddenly decided to retire and we had about 3 weeks notice. As the Firkin Flyers have been meeting there for many years and just loved the regular abuse from the host, we decided to mark his retirement with something special to remind him of us. The Firkin logo is a green and white Citroen 2CV so through the good graces of Long Eaton Art Room, Manly arranged for a pottery 2CV money box to be painted and glazed in Firkin Flyers colours. We added our logo to the doors just in case Pete forgot where he acquired it and sent it to a car boot sale!
His wife Tina got flowers too. Aren't we a sociable lot in Derbyshire? He does still remember us and turned up at Adrian's birthday bash later in the year. Last updated: 14 July 2008 |
