Lottie
gets tumblered! Lottie
the black and yellow Citroen 2CV Charleston now living in Derbyshire was
missing one small thing her owners thought. What happens if we mislay or
lose our one lonely set of keys? Better still what can we do to fill the gap
after Christmas and before the New Year. The
local car accessory shops no longer cut keys, the market stall had closed
down so we began checking the local shoe and key cutting shops. The good
news was key blanks of the right type are still available but when out of
stock nobody wanted to purchase 10 blanks for one sale and you guessed it -
close to us - they were out of stock. We were pointed towards a specialist car locksmith - the 3D Group in Nottingham Tel: 0115 952 2772 or 0798 9408281 but decided to try local shops eventually finding one on the main street in Ripley, Derbyshire. Ignition and door key for just £10.00. I also bought 2 Citroen key rings for £6.00 – OK so I'm a compulsive shopper and it was a wet day but the guy owning the shop was happy enough to chat about cars and said he had never owned a Citroen!
As soon as I got home I tried the keys. Door & boot no problem. Ignition key fitted but the top of the key was so wide it would not turn as it fouled the trim. Out came the hacksaw to slim it down and then a touch on the grinding wheel to shape and smooth and the problem was solved. Then
on to applying the Halfords anti-mist lotion to the inside of the windows
and we were ready to party again. Could
I have got key blanks from SPOG say by sending a pencil rubbing to get the
right type? Last updated: 03 May 2008 |
